In California a new law is going into effect soon, the minimum wage increase to $15.00 an hour.
For the folks and students that have to work in restaurants, hotels and factories and are not self employed, this is a big blessing. For the rest of the citizens, who will have to pay for their increased salaries, it is inflation and a pain.
Just the other day, we were in a fabulous restaurant and we noticed the price increase of $2.00 on the menu. For four of us for lunch was $60 which was basically 2 hamburgers, 1 french dip and 1 order of chicken wings. Another restaurant for two was $30.00. At this rate, we are going to start making lunch at home and coupons become more and more important.
Most people think $15.00 an hour is reasonable for a person to earn today. However, for the employer that $15.00 in reality is more like $20.00 and hour when you calculate the employer's taxes and benefits that has to be paid per employee. So for a mom and pop shop that has two employees they have to earn a minimum of $40 an hour just to keep the employees.
In the past these types of jobs were retained for students and others who were working as they were in college or waiting for a better job. Today these jobs have become careers. Naturally as a career employee you want to be able to earn more the longer you are with the company.
On the other hand, folks that are government employees, union employees and state employees have salaries that are way out of line with their actual work and duties. And, many of these employees have so many good benefits due to their unions that whether they work hard, or work enough, they will still reap the benefits if they can last their 10, 20 or 30 years of employment.
So my recommendation - get a government job. Take the civil service exam. At least when they raise the minimum wage for others, you won't be affected too much with the cost of living because they will probably raise your wage as well.
Mom and Pop stores will return to the old days when the family worked in the store and truly it becomes a mom and pop store again. Others who cannot afford to stay open will close in droves. More and more ordinary middle class citizens will go below the poverty line. Then Mom, Dad, and all the children will have to work to make ends meet, just like the good old days when the family were farmers.
As someone said to us the other day, let them continue to raise the minimum wage, and eventually, customer service will be not only outsourced to developing nations, but also handled by robots and ATM machines.

Wake Up Americans!
America the Beautiful! People from all over the world, yearn to come and see America, to experience the liberty and freedom that a true democracy has created for over 250 years.
But today, there are a few people who are in America and coming to America that do not share our values. They do not want to become Americans. They do not want to build a new life. Rather, they are here for one reason, to destroy America from the inside out.
Psalm 54: 3
"Strangers are attacking me; ruthless men seek my life - men without regard for God."
Psalm 55:9-14
"Confuse the wicked, O Lord, confound their speech, for I see violence and strife in the city. Day and night they prowl about on its walls; malice and abuse are within it. Destructive forces are at work in the city; threats and lies never leave its streets. If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; if a foe were raising himself against me, I could hide from him. But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship...
Verse 20-23
"My companion attacks his friends, he violates his covenant. His speech is smooth as butter, yet war is in his heart; his words are more soothing than oil, yet they are drawn swords. Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous fall."
After listening to Dr. Ben Carson's address of 11/13/2015, he makes a good point. The enemy would like us to be divided. And, as Americans we have to wake up but also at the same time, we need to be Americans who stand together!
It is really important to understand that there is no true protection against terrorism, violence in the workplace, in a public Christmas party, at a music concert or at a soccer stadium. The only true safety we have is in Jesus Christ.
America was once a Christian nation. Because of that, God had an obligation to protect the country from foreign invaders, famine, pestilence, etc. But today, as our President and our Elected Officials have publicly stated that America is no longer a Christian nation but a Secular nation, then what obligation does God have to protect the country?
No one was paying attention to the fact that the United States of America is superseding the world in new HIV and AIDS cases. Why? Because the Money men know that in America their insurance will pay for the treatment. More sickness, more treatments, more money for the pharmaceuticals, more money for Wall Street.
People are protecting furry animals, and yet, the unborn child is unprotected. God in heaven who gives life must be truly angry at our nation! It is a fact that life begins when something supernatural takes place in conception. It is not simply the mating of a sperm with an egg otherwise every interaction would produce a living cell. It is not until God's spirit manifests and a heavenly light penetrates that cell and it becomes a living cell, a human being. Only a supernatural being can accomplish this and then to have that life cut short is murder.
Dr.Ben Carson says "One can not enjoy happiness or liberty without life."
The attack on Paris was heart breaking. The attack in San Bernardino equally heartbreaking.
But to the news media, and liberal talk show hosts it like watching a TV show or movie and not real life. They laugh and then they talk about how taking all the guns away is the answer. Worse yet, they berate the ones who are offering prayers on behalf of the victims and injured.
Guns don't kill people. People kill people.
Oregon Massacre: Gun Free Campus. Even the security had no guns. The drill for an attack by an intruder with a gun was to pick up a book or a chair and throw it at the gunman. How stupid is that?
San Bernardino Christmas Party: Gun Free Zone. Security had no guns. Good people who have guns did not bring their guns because they obey the laws. People who have authorization to carry a weapon did not bring their guns because they obey the law. Who brought guns? Evil people who's intention it was to kill people. They also used little toy cars. Shall we ban those little toy cars or new drone video cameras?Shall we ban cell phones that trigger the bombs?
Background checks are not enough. Profiling and a social media background check is as important as a background check that comes up clean.
Now that the US can track a person as they enter and leave US they should use that 100% to
track potential evil doers and not let them re-enter the US.
Now we know that the background check definitely doesn't work We also know that the woman terrorist entered in on a spousal visa. Hmmm. She definitely was here on a mission otherwise how could a mother of a newborn casually leave her child with in-laws never to see her again? That confirms that her mission was more important than her child.
It's time to rethink our strategy. It's time to wake up Americans and stop living in the TV and Internet fantasy world. And finally it is time to get back to God. For it is only In God We Trust that we have any peace or security!
